Structured training pathways for every level — from your first foil to the international stage.
Capital Fencers Club offers group lessons structured by age and competitive level. Program placement is determined by the Club based on each fencer's rating and demonstrated ability. Full annual membership is required for all programs.
Elite Competitive Program
A or B rated fencers (or demonstrated equivalent)
Three 2-hour group lessons per week
Our most intensive group training, reserved for fencers who have achieved A or B ratings or demonstrated equivalent skill. The Elite program demands the highest commitment — fencers are expected to take a minimum of three private lessons per week in addition to group training. This program prepares athletes for national team selection and international competition.

Advanced Competitive Program
C or D rated fencers (or demonstrated equivalent)
Three 1.5-hour group lessons per week
High-performance training for fencers pursuing national-level results. The Advanced Competitive program develops tactical depth, physical conditioning, and mental toughness required for success at major competitions. Fencers maintain a minimum of three private lessons per week alongside group training.

Competitive Program
E or U rated fencers (or demonstrated equivalent with solid foundation)
Three 1-hour group lessons per week
For fencers ready to compete at the regional and national level. The Competitive program builds on a solid technical foundation, introducing advanced tactics, structured bouting, and tournament preparation. Fencers are expected to take a minimum of two private lessons per week.

Youth Competitive Program
Unrated youth fencers with basic technique and entry-level competitiveness
Two 1-hour group lessons per week
Designed for young fencers who have moved beyond the beginner stage and shown an aptitude for competitive fencing. The Youth Competitive program develops age-appropriate competitive skills, sportsmanship, and a pathway into the rated competitive programs. A minimum of one private lesson per week is expected.

Beginner Program
Open to all — little or no fencing experience
One 1-hour group lesson per week
Your entry point into the art of the foil. The Beginner program welcomes fencers of all ages with little or no prior experience. Learn fundamental footwork, blade technique, right of way, and basic tactics in a structured, supportive environment. Equipment is provided.

Additional Information
Private Lessons
All private lessons are 20 minutes each and are offered to competitive-level fencers. Private lessons are limited by coach availability, and the Club assigns coaches at its discretion. Lessons are prepaid in blocks of 20.
Strip Coaching
Tournament strip coaching is available for competition events. Fencers share coaching travel and lodging expenses pro rata.
Quarterly Assessment
The Club evaluates each fencer on a quarterly basis to determine program level adjustments. The Club reserves the right to combine groups for larger lessons from time to time.

A sibling discount is available on membership and group lesson fees. Contact us for details.
USA Fencing Membership Required
All members must be registered with USA Fencing. Parents and guardians accompanying minors must register as Parent Members. Fencers in competitive programs must hold a Competitive membership. Visit USA Fencing →
